WHAT IS b'more mobile?

b'more mobile IS A VISION

b'more mobile IS A COALITION

b'more mobile IS A METHOD

RIGHT NOW: Baltimore's public transportation system is badly ailing. It is not fully public – many won't or can't ride. It is not good transportation – limited routes, infrequent service, incomplete schedules. And it is not a system – lacking a full range of different transportation modes and failure to coordinate or integrate them.

THE VISION: The Baltimore Metro Region will have a strong, affordable, interconnected, efficient, and environmentally sustainable system of transportation for all the public – public transportation in the fullest sense of both words. People of all ages, levels of personal physical mobility, income levels, races, ethnic origins, and gender will be able to move freely, frequently, safely, and conveniently about the entire city and five-county regional area on a 24/7 basis for the purposes of: ● jobs ● doing business ● shopping ● health care ● cultural and sports activities ● visiting friends ● school ● physical fitness, and ● general exploration. The region will use all forms of transportation and they will be fully integrated with each other – fixed rail (both heavy and light), express bus, bus, shuttle, van, bicycle, and walking. This system will encourage greater use of Baltimore City and its surrounding suburbs, and further development both of existing and planned future growth areas. It will discourage new suburban-rural crawl and sprawl development in the Region. Strong, continuing, and official community and passenger representatives will define and actively engage in both the planning and operation of the public transportation system.

THE COALITION: Our members are interested individuals and organizations, drawn from Baltimore City and all five surrounding counties in the Baltimore Metro Region. They are committed to work together to promote the Vision, to expand current public transportation to bring it in line with the vision, and to use such transportation regularly. The Coalition is open to anyone and works by consensus.

THE METHOD: Our approach is defined by:

openness / imagination / accomplishments

Community organizing will provide both the Coalition and the Vision with a presence in the Baltimore Region and metropolitan area. Promotion of the vision will be done through, among other things, meetings, presentations, plans, reports, public hearings, legislation, regulations, grants, support of bond issues, publications, performances, artistic productions, media events, public demonstrations, and this internet website.

        1. Increasing the level and quality of public engagement in transportation planning.

        1. Getting the transportation planners to pay more attention to public transportation needs relative to increasing roads and highways for drivers of personal auto vehicles.

        1. Getting the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) to set in motion a long-range process to envision what the Baltimore Metro Region could look like by the year 2060 in terms of transportation and land use.

        1. Getting the public transportation planners to pay much more attention to equity in providing existing services to and designing new services with and for all persons who do or could depend on them.

        1. Most recently, beginning May 2012, preparing and distributing
THE CASE FOR EASTERN AVENUE ON THE RED LINE.
